DACS has just paid out over £3 million in royalties to almost 13,000 artists, photographers, illustrators and many other visual creators who have had work reproduced in UK books, magazines or broadcast on terrestrial UK television.

Payback royalties are generated through collective licensing revenue. Collective licences are used in situations where it would be difficult or near impossible for visual creators to license their rights individually. For example, when a university wishes to photocopy an illustration or a photograph
printed in a book.

"In the current economic climate it's fantastic to be able to help so many artists and visual creators get the royalties they deserve. In our continued efforts to pay even more, we have reduced our administration charge from 25% to 24% since 2007.This year successful claimants will be able to enjoy a
further reduction in our charges to 23%." says Nik Watkins-Wright, DACS Payback Manager.

Payments were made in December 2008, with many claimants receiving their royalties in time for Christmas. Successful Payback claimant, photographer, John Simmons says "It's made more than a small difference to the festivities.
It certainly helps us to beat the CRUNCH just at the right time!"

What's more, any artist or visual creator who has successfully claimed can now sign up for Payback membership and enjoy many additional benefits. To find out more about Payback membership offer visit www.dacs.org.uk/payback
